INGREDIENT NOTES
Here are some notes on the ingredients. For a full list of ingredients, scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of the page.
- Strawberry ice cream- I used Haagen Dazs strawberry ice cream in this recipe. It has a fresh, strong strawberry flavor. But feel free to use your favorite brand.
- Frozen strawberries- The key to a thick milkshake is to use cold ingredients. Frozen strawberries vs. fresh will help give you that creamy consistency and keep everything nice and cold.
- Banana- I use just one banana so that it doesn't overpower the strawberry flavor. Also, the riper the banana, the better.
- Milk- I use whole milk but if you want to cut back, you can use 2% or fat free if you'd like.
- Heavy cream- Nothing beats homemade whipped cream. You can make this in advance and hold it inside the refrigerator until you're ready to make your milkshakes.
- Strawberry frosting- I use store bought strawberry frosting to coat the rims of the glass so the sprinkles have something to adhere to. It makes a fun and colorful presentation and the kiddos will go nuts over it.
- Mini Pancakes- I used mini funfetti pancakes and placed 5 of them on a skewer for garnish.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Here is how to make this super delicious milkshake.
STEP 1: Make homemade whipped cream. Inside bowl of stand mixer, add cold heavy cream and vanilla extract. Whisk on medium-high until frothy, about 2 minutes. Lower speed and add sugar. Increase speed and whip until stiff peaks form. Refrigerate until ready to use.
STEP 2: Decorate glass rims. Take each glass and spread a thin layer of strawberry frosting on the outside rim. Roll in rainbow sprinkles. Place inside freezer to chill glasses.

STEP 3: Add ingredients to blender. Scoop ice cream and place inside the blender. Add frozen strawberries, bananas and milk.
STEP 4: Blend ingredients. On high speed, blend ingredients until mixture is smooth and pourable. Make sure there are no chunks of fruit left unblended. Pour into prepared glasses.

STEP 5: Add toppings. Using a disposable piping bag fitted with a star tip, pipe whipped cream on top of milkshake. Garnish with pancake skewer, maraschino cherry and extra sprinkles.
EXPERT TIPS
Make sure to use full fat ice cream which will yield the creamiest and smoothest milkshake. Choose high quality ice creams, such as Haagen Dazs for the best flavor.
Chill your glasses. Let's be honest, cold drinks especially milkshakes can go from thick and creamy to runny and soupy quick. By chilling your glasses, you can keep everything nice and cold longer.
To easily scoop your ice cream, let it sit at room temperature for 3-5 minutes so it will be soft enough to scoop.
Do not add ice. It will only water down your milkshake.
If for whatever reason your milkshake is too thick, add a couple tablespoons of milk to help loosen it up.
If you want a more creamier milkshake, you can substitute the milk for heavy cream.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
It's best to make any milkshake right before you're going to drink it. As they sit, they will begin to melt and become thin and runny. I recommend you enjoy your milkshake as soon as you make it.
Some ideas for topping your milkshake include chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, crushed Oreos, chopped nuts, candy or fresh fruit.
While this milkshake is meant to be decadent, there are definitely ways to cut back if you choose to do so. Some options include using low fat ice cream and low fat milk. Cut back on the whipped cream and pancakes and garnish with fresh fruit.

STORING AND FREEZING
If you have any leftover strawberry and banana milkshake, you can refrigerate it. But just know, after a few hours it will no longer have its thick and frothy consistency. It will turn into more of a strawberry and banana milk. Still tasty, but definitely not the same experience.
FREEZING
Remove any toppings and cover leftover milkshake with plastic wrap. Place inside freezer and when you're ready to drink it, remove it from the freezer and leave it at room temperature for 20 minutes. Enjoy round 2!
