Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Loaded with turkey- This sandwich is piled high with deli sliced turkey meat, making it one hearty meal.
- Honey mustard sauce- Sweet, tangy and oh so creamy. This sauce turns an ordinary turkey sandwich into something extraordinary. It's easy and ready to use in less than 5 minutes.
- Toasted bread- We all know that good bread is a key factor in a great sandwich. I use bakery style sourdough bread and toast it inside a pan with melted butter.
- Creamy avocado- I use perfectly ripe avocados and sprinkle sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper on top.

Ingredient Notes
Here are some notes on the ingredients. For a full list of ingredients, scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of the page.
- Bread- Use a good, sturdy bread, one that is crusty on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. Also, one that gives you that "freshly baked" quality. Sourdough and rye bread are good choices.
- Turkey meat- Freshly sliced turkey from the deli counter is always better than the packaged stuff. But feel free to use whatever kind you like.
- Avocado- Use ripe avocados which are creamy and have the best flavor.
- Tomatoes- I am a fan of heirloom tomatoes. They're super juicy, and you can cut thick slices. You can also use beefsteak tomatoes. Just make sure they're ripe.
- Cheese- I chose provolone but you can also use Havarti or Swiss cheese.
- Honey mustard sauce- To make this, I use honey, mayo, apple cider vinegar and dijon mustard. You can use store-bought, but homemade is always better!
- Greens- I use a mixture of baby arugula and micro greens. Butterhead lettuce, iceberg and mixed greens are all great options. Use your favorite!

Step By Step Instructions
STEP 1: Make the honey mustard sauce. In a small bowl, combine mayo, honey, dijon and apple cider vinegar. Season with salt. Refrigerate until ready to use.

STEP 2: Toast the bread: In a large skillet, add butter. Once melted, add bread slices. Toast both sides of the bread over medium-high heat until golden brown.

STEP 3: Spread on the sauce. Take each slice of bread and spread honey mustard sauce. Then, add sliced cheese to one slice of bread.

STEP 4: Add the fixings. Layer on the turkey, followed by the tomatoes and avocado (season with salt and pepper). Lastly, add the greens.
Drizzle extra honey mustard sauce (if desired). Close the sandwich with top piece of bread and slice in half.
Expert Tips
A good sandwich always starts with the bread. Choose a good quality bread, one that gives you great texture and flavor. I also suggest choosing a bread that is sturdy enough to hold all the ingredients without getting soggy and falling apart.
Make sure to toast the bread until golden brown. This not only adds great texture but prevents the sandwich from absorbing moisture and getting soggy.
Don't be stingy with the meat! I suggest 3-4 oz of meat for the perfectly balanced sandwich.
Always season with salt and pepper. For this sandwich, I season both the tomatoes and avocado. Very basic, I know, but it makes a big difference when components in a sandwich are properly seasoned.

FAQ
This really does come down to personal preference. I would suggest using a more milder cheese so it doesn't overpower the flavor of the turkey. Provolone, havarti, swiss and cheddar cheese are all really good options.
I suggest using a thick, crusty bread. Choose a bread that can hold the fillings without getting soggy and falling apart so quickly. I recommend using sourdough, baguette, rye, or ciabatta.
I recommend making these sandwiches no more than 2 hours in advance. The avocados will begin to oxidize and the beautiful green color will turn brown which isn't really appealing. Another option is assembling the sandwiches without the avocado and adding it right before you serve.

Storing
Although this turkey avocado sandwich tastes best when made fresh, if you have any leftovers, store inside a ziplock freezer bag or an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3 days.
To keep things aesthetically pleasing, remove the avocado from the sandwich before refrigerating. When you're ready to eat your leftovers, add fresh avocados to your sandwich.
